The LaRue County Environmental Education & Research Center is located a leisurely three mile ride from downtown Hodgenville.
The Center serves as an outdoor classroom providing educational opportunities in ecology, genetics, forestry, natural resource conservation and wildlife management. Visitors can research the Center's library, view the documents and maps of forest inventory, review the resource plans and learn about the biological assessments. There are also planned activities and interpreter-led programs or hikes.
The walking trail is a solid, chip seal surface 6 feet wide and 4400 feet in length. The topography is rolling, making it a strenuous walk for most. There are several benches along the way to rest or simply enjoy and observe the wildlife. Currently there are 24 tree identification markers that offer an educational challenges or "guessing game" to the viewers. Approved use of the trail is for walking, jogging or non-motorized biking. Motorized vehicles for the physically challenged are acceptable. Dirt bikes and four wheelers are not permitted.
Developed through efforts of the LaRue County Fiscal Court and made possible by a grant by the Kentucky Heritage Land
Conservation Fund.
